Another finally finish.
Started in the fall of 2011, with the Argyle Quilt Along on from the blue chair. Her instructions were clear, but I didn't have the skills {or the patience} to do it right.
{Have I raked yet? Nope!}
I used the fabric I had, so I went off pattern, and I had no idea how big it was going to be. It ended up 70" square, but it still looks wrong. It should have been longer than it is wide...like the diamonds.
Quilted in a nice argyle-esque pattern. Alas, I don't remember any of the fabrics and the selvages are long tossed. The backing is a burgundy flannel and the binding is some fall-ish print from Jo-Ann's.
And here's where it went so wrong. Check out those LOVELY matching seams. Like, not even close. Some I could fix, but some were hopeless. So eventually I gave up.
So it's done, but I don't really like it. Maybe I'll like it next fall when it comes out of storage...

It's always great to finish those long-time projects! (I've quit stressing about seam-and-point-matching! I just can't do perfection!) I love the argyle-esque quilting lines. This looks like a really cozy fall quilt!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful to me! I think sometimes we just get tired of projects that drag on too long and they lose their luster. I'm sure you'll love it by next fall. :o)

ReplyDeleteYesss, you are completely right, accordingly to the Patchwork Police Department. But cheer up, they have no sanctions. The sanction is only in your head. I found a nice blog where they take advantage from the whateveryoucall it: http://unrulyquilting.blogspot.com/ and I think it is fun!!!

ReplyDeleteWay to go finishing it, Katie!! It's lovely, even with the mismatched points. So what! If you like the fabrics, you're going to really enjoy this in the future. And I bet you anything, it'll be for you like it is for many of us: several years from now when your skills are way higher than when you pieced this top, your mismatched points will tickle you and you'll get a kick out of the evidence of your progression. :D I Have a very, very old UFO (as in from 1994ish) that I'm saving for the last UFO to finish, as a prize, and I get a good laugh every time at the crazy-wide and uneven seam allowances, etc. It's all good!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the finish. Sorry you are not thrilled with it. But it's done, it looks great (mismatched seams and all). At least with this one if The Dude spills something on it, you won't be terribly upset.
