Charming Wildflowers - Finished!

Finished over two weeks ago, but I've been busy!
No pattern - I just used quarter square triangles to frame each charm square, with everything set on point. The charms are Moda Wildflowers VI, with Kona blush pink and delft blue. The border is more of the charms and white Bella.
I did my first applique of a hummingbird in each corner. Not perfect, but pretty good for a first try! The eye and beak are both stitches on my machine, as is the blanket stitch.
I used up every bit of the Kona and charms on the back. I had planned the front with a 6x7 layout, but lost some of my charms and had to resort to 6x6. It was too late to change it when I found the charms, so the last row went into the back and borders.
It's quilted with double lines just off the ditch of the charms. I debated that or lines off-ditch on the Kona - the former looks better on the border, but the latter would have made the charms look more within the squares. In a perfect world, I would have had enough time to do both - but I had an 80th birthday party to get it to!

It measures 46x46" and is bound in a dark blue floral, with which my mother made matching dresses for my sisters and me when I was in middle school. I love raiding my mother's stash.

 Since I'm finally finished...on a Friday... Can I get a Whoop Whoop?

If you've read this far, then check out my little giveaway. :) It ends tomorrow!

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week 23

I can't believe WiP Wednesday was my last post! We went to a family reunion in Ohio last weekend, surprising my husband's almost-80-year-old grandmother.

I had full intentions of posting on the trip, but my Netbook refused to connect to any internet. So I have a bunch of finishes that haven't been blogged about yet.
I also need to put together a post for SewCalGal's Pets on Quilts Show and a giveaway post this weekend in honor of Grandma's birthday...and mine, too! So you might want to check back for that.

Both Charming Wildflowers and iSpy Sliced Coin Quilt are done, bound, and handed off to their new owners (grandma and nephew, respectively.)

The doll quilts are done and handed off to their new owners, who moved while we were gone. :(

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week 22

Checking things of the list this week, big time.

Charming Wildflowers? Quilted. Getting bound today. Maybe... I can't decide if I need to add quilting along the solid boxes. I wanted the current quilting because it adds dimension to the borders, but now I've lost the definition of the blocks - they were supposed to look like flowers within the solid boxes, not next to.

iSpy Sliced Coin Quilt? Quilted. Okay, again, mostly. I need to decide how to fill in this empty space at the top and bottom. I'm thinking just chevrons rather than continuing the lines to make diamonds. That way the biggest diamond in the center stands out.

Doll quilts? Quilted, waiting to be bound.

The chunky log cabin is in a mish-mash of stages that I need to sort out.

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week 21

Been working on several little things here and there, in between quilting the Christmas Kaleidoscope.
I'm quilting double lines just off ditch. So far I've finished the horizontal and I'm going to finish the vertical today. It's going to be pretty cool in the middle there with all the lines crossing.

I picked out a hummingbird to applique on Charming Wildflowers. I'm going to use the same green for the wings and different pinks/reds for the throat.

Speaking of pinks and reds, I'm making doll blankets for my neighbor's kids. We've been friends through two assignments - the Dude and their oldest daughter were in baby swim class in Washington together five years ago! But they're going to the Guard and moving in a couple weeks, so I'm adding borders to these little blocks I made with the scraps of my Bad Romance quilt.

And I started a chunky log cabin. I have one more blue I'm considering adding, along with the red from the center.

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week 19

I have a finish, woo!
Well, a piecing finish. I'm adding applique hummingbirds to the corners.

Christmas Kaleidoscope is mostly pieced and on the floor. Which means...
Time for a cat inspection!
I just need to piece the fourth row, then the rows, then the borders.

I have a couple other Christmas in July projects finished/in the works.

I pulled out Frolicking Pinwheels out for leaders/enders.

I've also been doing some organizing.
All my scraps are sorted and labeled. The other stuff is vintage sheets and pillowcases, or my horribly disorganized clothing fabric. That's my next task now that my quilting stash is in order!
The boxing and labeling extended to the playroom. Why do we need a 16-quart bin of Play-doh supplies??

I think my goal for August will be to quilt this pile. Less fun than Christmas in July, but necessary!

Sunday Stash Report - Week 29

I finished this:
and this:
Well... They're finished to the point of applique or embroidery.

I had to buy 1/4 yard of Kona bone to finish the table runner, but that's it. The table runner kit has been in my possession since we lived in Washington...and we moved in late 2008.

Used this Week: 2.75
Used Year to Date: 77.93
Added this Week: 0.25
Added Year to Date: 108.46
Net Used for 2011: (30.53) yards

Charming Wildflowers - Top Finished

Finished to the point of applique, at least.
{sorry about the shadow. still trying to figure out new camera.}
It's about 48" square, made from one charm pack of Wildflowers IV and some pink and blue Kona.
Borders are white Kona, and I've already picked out a little hummingbird to applique. Just need to go through my scraps and find the right colors.
And then I need to decide on a backing and get to quilting!

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week 18

My little dude had his tonsils out late last week, so this week has been a mix of lots of snuggling on the couch and lots of sewing time during 4 hour naps. He's eating solid food again and whining about his medicine, so I think he's on the mend.

Charming Wildflowers is close to being pieced. Next I have to decide on border(s). And I have no idea what to do there.
I'm thinking about pulling a couple of the blue/white charms, putting them in opposing corners, and appliqueing a hummingbird drinking from them. But what color border? Both the blue and the pink are along the edge...

Still plugging along on the Kaleidoscope Quilt Along. Can't wait to finish up all the blocks and see them up on the design wall!

I have a couple other Christmas in July projects in the works.

Untouched This Week:
Steelers Quilt (though I pulled the border fabric out last night)

Design Wall Monday - Week 28

Charming Wildflowers, minus a row.
And why is it missing a row? Because I only have 39 charms, not 42. I didn't bother to count because I've never had a short charm pack before. So... Either I go with the 7x5 layout, or rip off some and make it 6x6... I don't know.
Regardless, it will need some borders next. Well, after I figure out how to make bi-colored setting triangles.
{And yes, I know there's a block going the wrong way in the top right. I have a pin in it so I remember to fix it. Eventually.}

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week 17

While I was on vacation, I finished Manassas Railroad.

Charming Wildflowers is back to being a leader/ender project and slowly coming together. (That row in the middle is missing because it's on the machine right now.)

My Kaleidoscope Quilt Along is coming along nicely. I have a small pile of wedges that still need triangles, and a whole bunch to press, before the next set of instructions come out tomorrow.

I'm also working on a couple other Christmas in July projects.

Work in Progress Wednesday - Week 11

Finally, my finger is near recovered and I had a good couple of sewing days!

Which means the cat must now sit in the sewing room to get my attention.

Steelers Quilt: pieced! It's 40x50" so I'll be adding borders. The plan is a 2" black border, then the million 2" HSTs, then... I don't know after that. Another black? A B&W?

New:

A baby quilt for the Dude's kindergarten teacher. It's from Don't Call Me Betsy's tutorial, but bigger. I'm going to have the kids sign the books, so I need at least 20, and I went wider than 1-2" books because kindergartners need a little more space to write. (Or at least mine does.) It'll end up being a three-shelf bookcase, with some stacked, some straight and some leaning.

Another quickie charm pack project, for my husband's grandmother.

Untouched This Week:
iSpy Sliced Coin Quilt (but not for long - the accent fabric has been purchased!)
